  1. Belgium Strike Action

Partners in Antwerp have advised that the Belgian Labour Unions have announced a national strike on Wednesday, 9th November over the rising cost of living. This strike will affect various modes of transport and disruptions in warehouse packing and deliveries. Please do expect delays in current bookings at this port.

2. Durban Container Terminal Congestions

Container Terminals are fully operational and it will take some time for all backlog and congestion to be cleared at port terminals after the recent strike action. Transnet has estimated that it would take roughly four months for the entire supply chain to recover from the delays caused.

The current delays experienced at port terminals are due to trucks stagging for long periods of time to uplift containers, both due to recent weather and system issues to obtain bookings. Pier 1 cancelled booking slots and trucks have been turned around to rebook. Pier 2 traffic is also congested due to system failures. Shipping lines are strict on enforcing overstays and have not given any leeway in this regard. SCT operational team is currently meeting with all partners with a focus to reduce as much of this delay as possible.

If you have any queries regarding any of the above, kindly contact your local SCT representative.
