Securing space from China pre-Chinese New Year is exceptionally difficult at present. The changes in shipping line schedules plus an increase in blank sailings to many ports have further added to space constraints. There is also a serious empty container stock shortage in many regions (especially 40ft), hampering further the ability to move freight as efficiently as planned. It is highly likely that this will result in some cargo not moving prior to Chinese New Year so please ensure that our team are advised as far in advance as possible of pending orders.
A reminder that Chinese New Year dates are as follows:
31st of January to the 6th of February
Adding to current problems in China, we have been advised that due to a Covid outbreak in the Beilun district in which Ningbo Port is located the region of Beilun has been placed into a strict lockdown but the port remains operational. The Chinese government has opened some dedicated routes for truck transport to Ningbo Port and releases special passes to the drivers but many truckers are refusing to operate under these conditions in that region. This will delay, and in some cases prevent, truck transport to Ningbo Port and any warehouses that are located in Beilun may be closed. We are currently assessing all Ningbo bound cargo and evaluating whether it can be routed to Shanghai instead. If there is any doubt or concern relative to your orders in our system for Ningbo departure please liaise with Samantha Jones (Samantha.jones@sctsolutions.co.za) or Sandra Marialva (Sandra.marialva@sctsolutions.co.za) for updates.
