Dear Valued Clients,

We bring your attention once again to SARS e-filing updates concerning all Importers and Exporters. Please refer below to very important information and action required.

1.Customer Vat Validations. All clients to please ensure company vat numbers are linked to your customs registration within the e-fling profile. A recent review of customs clearance declaration data revealed that VAT registered importers and exporters do not in all instances reflect their VAT registration number on such clearances or incorrect VAT numbers are reflected on the clearances. This will have an adverse impact on the future acceptance of clearance declarations and the payment of VAT refund claims.VAT numbers declared on customs declarations will be monitored over the next 30 days and a further communication will be issued thereafter, including advising taxpayers of further steps to be taken to ensure compliance.

Example shown below from a customs declaration:

2.RLA On-BoardingIt is imperative that all clients have now updated company details on the e-filing platform for the RLA on-boarding integration. Kindly review the attached notice should you need assistance. We have been warned by the freight forwarders association that SARS will start rejecting clearances and penalties to be issued. Video: How to navigate the RLA system via YouTube https://youtu.be/kN-sZWOFkpw

3.SACUM-UK EPAAttention to all exporters shipping cargo from South Africa into the UK. The SACUM-UK EPA went live last week whereby exporters can no longer use the EUR1 certificate for trade into the UK. Exporters will need to firstly onboard, if not done so already, and then apply and register with SARS via e-filing to be approved exporters under the SACUM-UK EPA. Once registered, there are forms to be submitted to the local customs office to have certificates re-issued. Please refer to the attached notice for further explanation of the trade agreement and should you have any questions, please reach out to your local SCT representative for assistance.
