We wish to inform you of an important regulatory change issued by the Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) affecting all imports into Kenya.
Mandatory from 30 September 2025, every import consignment must be accompanied by a valid Certificate of Origin (COO) in accordance with the revised guidelines under Section 44A of the Tax Procedures Act, CAP. 469B (Finance Act, 2025). However, service providers and consignees are already requesting the certificate to be issued.
Exporters must please ensure they can accurately declare and provide the country of origin for all products within their consignment destined to Kenya and accompany a valid Certificate of Origin with every shipment. Non-compliance may result in delays, penalties, seizure, or forfeiture of goods. The certificate can be provided by the exporter or SCT can apply on the client’s behalf at time of export.
