Dear Valued Customer,

Notices from two main shipping lines have been received implementing a Port Congestion Surcharge due to the local port downtime and equipment failures. These charges will be implemented from December 2023 for dry containers, except from East and West Africa, incoming to all South African ports. Note the charges per TEU vary slightly per shipping line as well as the implementation dates. Kindly refer to the attached details from Maersk and MSC in the meantime.

MSC confirms implementation for all Bill of Ladings dated 3 December 2023 onwards.

Maersk does not specify and only mentions fee applicable from 1 December 2023 onwards.

Should you have any queries, please feel free to discuss with your local SCT representative.
