SCT is aware of the ongoing challenges being experienced at Durban Pier 1 and Pier 2 Terminals related to container collections and limited bookings allocated to transporters. As an update, we assure all clients that we continue to work closely with our partners to facilitate the movement of units out of port. We have seen positive operational improvements but overall confirm very real challenges with congestions and trucks still spending hours waiting in queues to uplift and some missing their booking slots due to congestion. Delivery delays are likely to impact every client in some way and so we continue to resolve each delay quickest possible.
Below we refer to a recent article leading clients and service providers to believe that congestion at terminal is something of the past. We quote: ‘TPT says that to sustain current operational efficiencies, the Durban Container Terminals are focused on managing truck movements, employing mass evacuation strategies in the yard, better managing the truck staging area and maximising the use of straddle carriers.’ We hope that this becomes a soon reality as our trucking partners are currently experiencing the contrary.
