Transnet Industrial Action Today

Please refer to below notice from SAAFF confirming details around todays strike action.

As per the Transnet notice published earlier, UNTU staff are now officially on strike from midnight 6 October. 

Transnet will be meeting SATAWU on Friday, 7 October to discuss a new wage offer. If the offer is rejected, SATAWU members will embark on a strike Monday 10 October. 

It is believed that unions are requesting TNPA marine staff to report to work and not join the strike action.

Cape Town

  • TNPA – Fully manned vessels will be serviced
  • CTCT – Not present. Truck deliveries to CTCT have been suspended for the time being. 
  • CTCT vessels on berth = MSC Marianna, ALS Flora.
  • CTCT vessels at anchor = 4, Ever Dainty, Santa Teresa, Kota Lekas, Maersk Amazon
  • CTMPT – not present. Truck deliveries to CTCT have been suspended for the time being. 
  • CTMPT vessels on berth = 1, Maersk Vilnius
  • CTMPT vessels at anchor = 1, MSC Melemi III
  • TNPA have advised that the marine Drive entrance to the port will be closed until further notice. Request to use Christian Barnard and South Arm Roads.

EC region

  • TNPA – fully manned vessels can be serviced
  • NCT – no staff present no waterside and landside activities
  • NCT vessels on berth = 1, Border
  • NCT vessels at anchor = 2, Santa Clara, MSC Yuvika, MSC Euginia. 
  • PECT – only operating limited staff on landside expect slow movement.
  • PECT vessels on berth = 1, CMA CGM San Antonio – 1 gang working
  • PECT vessels at anchor = nil

Durban region

  • TNPA – fully manned vessels will be serviced.
  • Pier 1 – – limited staff on landside and waterside expect slow movement. Limited truck booking slots available.
  • Pier 1 vessels on berth = 2, working 4 gangs. MSC Acapulco, Bear Mountain Bridge.
  • Pier 1 vessels at anchor = nil
  • Pier 2 – limited staff on landside and waterside expect slow movement. Limited truck booking slots available.
  • Pier 2 vessels on berth = 4, working 8 gangs. CCNI Arauco, MSC Adelaide, Stanley A, Seaspan Kyoto. 
  • Pier 2 vessels at anchor = 2, MSC Everest, Ever Diadem, 
  • Durban MPT – limited staff expect slow movement waterside and landside.
  • Durban MPT vessel in port = 1, Polonia
  • Durban MPT vessels at anchor = 1, MSC Mila 3

Rail Durban – JHB

  • Limited drivers therefore limited train movement between Durban and Reef. 

General

Due to limited operational functioning across container terminals, container delivery will be affectedVessel operations are also affected therefore expect delays in departure and berthing of container vessels at the respective terminals

Shippers requested to monitor reefer export stack dates to assess container packing and delivery to terminals. 

Transnet will update on commencement of each shift in terms of staff presence.
